Hello, my name is Francisco Fernández from León, Guanajuato, México. This Lesson is for week 2 of 'Introduction to Music Production' at Coursera.com. My Topic is "How to: Recording an electric guitar or bass without amplifier".
My gear:
* A Mayones Setius Pro 7 Guitar
* A Fender 1/4 TS Cable.
* A Focusrite Scarlett 2i4
Before starting the connection although cable is used the signal is not a typical line level. You need a interface wich provides dedicated "Instrument" Inputs with a high impedance (you can find them as: Instrument Input, Direct Input, Hi-z Input, Hight Impedance Input).
In this Interface we have to Choose Between line and instrument input, only we need to choose "INST" and ready. (Phantom is not requirement)

This is the connection diagram.

Well, Let's start with the connection:
1. Make sure that you input trim is all down also your Monitor, This is to prevent damage to equipment.

2. Connect the Electric Guitar (or bass) to the interface.

3. Play and Set Levels. (Always under the Red LoL )

And this is it!
The biggest problem we found is the delay between what is played and what I heard in the monitor... THE LATENCY!
This can be very frustrating to keep good groove or when recording very precise things.
My Reflection:
In my opinion this is a very big resource because in the time of the recording do not have to worry about the sound you want to get, you worry about the performance on the instrument. Then you will decide if you want to use VST or Reamping... but in this point you have a good record to work.
Cheers.
Francisco Fernández.
